Lights…camera…action! Local actors had the chance to take part in a Verizon educational film, set at the Avenue of the Giants.

Redwood curtain casting gave six kids the opportunity to be extras in a two-day shoot, which wrapped up on Tuesday.

“People have no idea how many opportunities there are to be extras,” said Casting Director Laura Montagna. “Humboldt County is turning out to people a popular place for film and commercial crews.”

Along with giving aspiring actors a roll, Humboldt County sees benefits too.

"It's beneficial in two ways, the first is the direct spending that they spend when they come to our area,” said Film Commissioner Cassandra Hesseltine.

The 12-man film crew is from Utah, and has to stay in hotels and buy local food and gas.

“On top of that, what happens is other people go and see this and they say ‘where's that, I want to go there.’ So it brings in tourism and that's fabulous,” Hesseltine said.

A bus was also needed and CHP and along with other agencies helped with the shoot.
