We’re talking accreditation at College of the Redwoods. It’s an issue that the school is trying to fix in order to improve their status. The Western Association Of Schools And Colleges has accredited college of the Redwoods since 1967.
Accreditation is a standard that schools across the country must all meet. It allows students to receive financial aid and transfer classes to other accredited institutions. CR is currently accredited. Out of the three levels of sanctions. CR sits at the most severe level.
CR President, Kathy Smith says, "Warning is the least severe sanction, we have been on warning before. Probation is the second level sanction, we've been on probation before, and right now we're on show-cause which is the most serious sanction."
The college must now prove to the accrediting commission that they deserve to remain accredited. Administrators have drafted a report containing information and evidence regarding the changes they've made to their system.
It’s a 300 page report. In it, it details the process of the college in the hopes of meeting accreditation standards. The accrediting commission will meet next month. A final decision is expected in January.
