Humboldt Surfrider's "Ocean Night" event at the Arcata Theater Lounge has raised more than $1,500 to help with Scott Stephens' medical bills after he was hospitalized after being attacked by what is likely a great white shark. The attack happened Tuesday while Stephens was surfing near the end of the North Jetty. An organizer of the event says besides the dollar amount raised to help Stephens, a wetsuit was auctioned off. The winner immediately donated the wetsuit to Stephens' family, who was in attendence. Stephens' wetsuit was wrecked the day of the attack.
