BROKEN DRILL PUSHES BACK DEADLINE FOR CRESCENT CITY HARBOR
Crescent City, CA- After weeks of waiting, a drill needed to install the pilings for the new docks at the Crescent City Harbor finally arrived. However, construction crews are still experiencing delays. Construction crews have been working over night at the harbor because they only have until November 15th to install the pilings for the new docks. But unexpected delays have been setting them back. According to the contractor, drilling over the weekend was halted due to technical problems. They were able to get the drill up and running this morning but around 11 am the crane that is holding the drill broke down. If they don’t meet the November 15th deadline, they will have to cease operations until June 1st of next year.Currently there is a steel pipe that is protecting the specialized drill. The drill is used to make a hole just wide enough for the steel piling to fall into. Engineer Ward Stover told us more pilings have yet to be installed. However, as commercial fishermen prepare for December’s crab season, the anticipation is high to finish the new dock.
