The District Attorney's office and Eureka Police's POP unit raid a home in the 3600 block of "O" Street today after they were both tipped off about marijuana growing activity.
The joint raid happened just before 9 Tuesday morning. In the basement of the home officers found 299 growing marijuana plants, and in another room 136 pounds of harvested drying marijuana. Police say its a commercial grow operation in the rental home being occupied by 38-year-old Robert Brian Barfield. Police say Barfield told them he moved from Georgia for the purpose of growing.

"So this is well outside the provisions of 215,” said EPD Sergeant Steve Watson, “Well outside the provisions of the City of Eureka's medical cannabis ordinance, its a for profit grow involving basically half of the entire basement area involving about a half dozen rooms."

Police also found Barfield in possession of a loaded rifle. He was arrested for possession and cultivation as well as maintaining a place for drug sales.
