Fire breaks out at a home in central Eureka Monday. Humboldt Bay Fire says the structure is uninhabitable and that the family dog perished in the blaze. It happened at 3820 H Street just before 2 p.m.  Fire officials say it likely started in the attached garage and quickly spread to the rest of the house and to a nearby trailer in the back yard. Firefighters battled the blaze from the roof on the roof while the street was shut down. They estimate the damage at $275,000 and say that’s still a conservative estimate.
The garage and attached shop are a total loss and the family of 5 has been displaced.
Fire officials add that arson is not suspected.  An exact cause is unknown. They say 2 other dogs made it out safe, and the family will be staying in the area.
