HUMBOLDT COUNTY, CA- A major change may be coming to the Arcata/Eureka Airport. RREDC is proposing they change- their name! The suggestion? How does “Redwood Coast Regional Airport” sound? Tonight RREDC is proposing the potential new name to the McKinleyville Community Services District A name change could mean more tourism and revenue for the area; at least that’s what officials at RREDC hope. RREDC Executive Director, Don Ehnebuske said, "The idea is to attract more people to fly directly here. Spend more time here. And of course spend more tourist dollars here."Officials of the commission are proposing the airport be renamed the Redwood Coast Regional Airport. They said that by putting “redwoods” in the title this would attract more visitors. Ehnebuske added, "They don't think of redwoods when they think of Arcata/Eureka. No they don't. Most people don't know where Arcata Eureka is."And residents agree. We spoke to some people today and this is what they said. "There are so many people that don't even know we're here."The airport name right now doesn't really fit. Because its not in either one of those cities."Ehnebuscke told us that right now most travelers fly into San Francisco to get here. He said the title of the airport it confusing. He added, "People from out of the country a from other portions of the country... They know about the redwoods. They want to see the redwoods. But they don't know how to get there."They are still in the discussion phase, but ultimately the Humboldt County Board of Supervisors will make the decision.
