UPDATE 12/13: The Coroner's Office has identified Kenneth Moilanen (34 of Arcata) as the sole victim.

ARCATA -- A high-speed, single vehicle crash claims the life of a 34-year old Arcata man.

Around 7:30 a.m. Wednesday morning, the Arcata Police Department responded to a collision in the 5900 block of Ericson Way, where a white Volvo wagon had collided with a segment of a temporary bridge.

The driver was headed northbound when he veered off the road and hit the large steel object.

The Humboldt County Coroner's Office says he died on impact.

Because of the remote area of the crash, authorities believe the crash may have occurred hours before it was discovered and reported.

The victim's name is being withheld as authorities notify next of kin.

Police are unsure if drugs or alcohol are a factor in the crash.

Arcata P.D. is investigating the cause of the collision.
