McKinleyville, CA- The Humboldt County Public Works Department is looking to build a median down Central Avenue in McKinleyville. The department has received $800,000 to install a raised median strip with left-hand turn pockets. The median will run from School Road to Hiller Road. County officials say the median will reduce accidents. They say there has been ninety-seven total accidents between 2001 and 2010. Public works officials say that Central Avenue is the busiest street in the county’s road system, with an average of eighteen thousand cars per day. They hope to start construction on the new median next summer.
