North Coast fisherman are now petitioning that crab season be delayed until mid January.
The season has already been delayed until December 31. Representatives from the Del Norte Fisherman’s Marketing Association say about 50 fisherman signed a petition asking that the season be delayed until January 15th because they think that’s when the crabs will be ready. They site testing results and meat to shell ratios. The petition has been put in the hands of the State Department of Fish and Game. The marketing association says they wanted to show the department the industry is together in support of the delay. They say Eureka fishermen and fishermen in Fort Bragg have signed and delivered similar petitions.
