CLAUDIA PEDREROS CONVICTED OF INVOLUNTARY MANSLAUGHTER

A Trinity County jury convicted the McKinleyville mom accused of drowning her 2-year-old daughter in the Trinity River. Jurors opted against a murder conviction sought by prosecutors against Pedreros. She was found guilty of involuntary manslaughter and two counts of child abuse. Deputy District Attorney Adam Grace said Pedreros was admitted to a state hospital Monday night and will undergo a mental evaluation. She is scheduled to be back in court January seventh. Pedreros had pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity in connection to the drowning of her daughter, Sophia.
