HUMBOLDT BAY FIRE: "UNATTENDED CANDLES CAUSE 50% OF FIRES DURING HOLIDAYS"

This Christmas, you might be lighting candles to spice up the holiday, but local firefighters are asking ask you to think twice.
 
According to Humboldt Bay Fire, 50-percent of fires that occur this time of year are due to candles.
 
The department suggests using a battery-operated candle instead of an open flame.
 
But, if you decide to use a real candle, don’t leave it unattended or put it near anything flammable. The department adds to not put it on the window sill, because the drapes or blinds could catch fire.
 
Humboldt Bay Fire says if a fire does occur, don’t waste any time and call 911 immediately.
