MEMORIAL VASES FOR NEWTOWN VICTIMS: LOCAL POTTER SENDS HOPE FROM THE NORTH COAST
Arcata, Ca- On the North Coast an Arcata man is doing his part.
Mark Campbell is using his craft to make 26 memorial vases to send to Newtown.
Campbell, a local potter was at home when he heard the news about the shootings at sandy hook elementary. He added, "It broke my heart."
And the heart of a nation broke as well. There was footage of parents crying looking for their children. Campbell says, as a father he could only imagine their pain, "it really hit home. When the story broke I heard it was kindergartners. Have a daughter in kindergarten."
And in honor of the lives lost Campbell has designed memorial vases. Vases he hopes to send to the victim’s families. Campbell said, "my message is to just help them with their healing process. I hope that's what this does."
The large vase will have a collage of all the victims, and this vase he is sending to the school. Campbell added, "I wanted to make one photo colleague vase that would have all the students and faulty on it."
Only 11 done so far, Campbell hopes to have all 27 complete in the next 3 weeks. He adds, "I’m just your average Joe American. I'm like everyone else and everyone can do something. And this is just what I want to do."
