EUREKA, CA- Saint Joseph Health welcomes the first baby of the new year just shortly after midnight. Joel and Miranda Maunder planned to welcome Cankane Joseph into the world on Friday, when they had a scheduled c-section. But before they we’re about to engage in their new year’s celebration, Miranda went into labor. Cankane Joseph was born at 12:02 at five pounds, 10 ounces. Joel has a 17-year-old daughter and says he and Miranda have been trying to have a sibling since they got married two years ago. Joel says they we’re having trouble conceiving, when he had a dream he would have a son. The Maunder family says in the future they’ll celebrate Cankane’s birthday on both New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day.
