Arcata, CA- Humboldt Area California Highway Patrol has kicked off a 3-day hiring push. Starting today they will be actively looking for future CHP officers.
California Highway Patrol says there is a strong need for more CHP officers in Humboldt County. CHP Officer Chase Adams said, "There’s a lot of good activity locally and a lot of work that needs to be done on our end."

However, they aren’t just looking for any applicants. They want locals, people who want to make a living here on the North Coast. Adams added, "We are specially looking for local applicants who would be interested and possibly in the future coming back to the area and serving in the local offices."

CHP says hiring locals is beneficial to the area. Knowledge of local roads and highways will make for a better patrol officer. Adams added, "You maybe intoned to local community, politics, needs…. Knowing the roads. We have a lot of rural areas we patrol here in Humboldt."

And a lot of activity that goes on. Adams said, “You have a very diverse community. You have the college in Arcata and them so rural highways down south."

And with a major highway running through most of the towns there’s never a dull moment. Adams added, "You have a variety activity. As far as speeders, DUI activity, a lot of traffic collisions... Treacherous weather conditions, [and] animals running out onto the roadway."

There are some minimum requirements; you must be 20-35 years of age, have a high school diploma, be in good physical health, and have a clean record.
