NEW COUNTY SUPERVISOR ESTELLE FENNELL GETS SWORN-IN
On the county political front Supervisors Rex Bohn and Mark Lovelace will be starting a new 4year term. they were sworn into office, along with the new District 2 Supervisor, Estelle Fennell. Supervisors Rex Bohn and Mark Lovelace have been here before, but for newly elected Estelle Fennell this is the start of a new chapter.Fennell is a native of Ireland, but has been living in Humboldt County for almost 30 years. Fennell added, "Humboldt County is very much my home I’m very protective of Humboldt County and I love it."Fennell was the News Director at KMUD radio for 17 years. She says her career as a journalist helped her get to know the north coast. Fennell said, "I know the players, I know the people, I’m aware of our interaction with the state and even the federal government."Fennell is the District 2 Supervisors and will be representing cities like Fortuna. She says she plans to get started right away. Fennell said, "I think your going to see a lot of attention in the 2nd district.”Attention to land use, property rights, and diversifying the economy. Fennell added, "Our district was very independent at one point. Very reliant on timber and fishing. And that's not as much the case anymore. I would like to see a more revitalization of the industrial aspects of my district."Fennell will make her debut today at the first Humboldt County Board of Supervisors meeting of the year.
