CHINA LOOKING TO IMPORT HUMBOLDT COUNTY PRODUCTS

Visitors from China are looking to bring some north coast products over seas.Redwoods, organic foods, these are just some of the items China is looking to bring to their marketplace. On of the Chinese delegates told us, "I think people in our region would think this is kind of new to us."The purpose of their trip is to get Humboldt made goods exported into Asian countries. Specifically products that is rare in their part of the world. Heather Ballinger, who works for the Consultants for Global Programs said, "When they are talking about redwood products they are talking specially about things that are hand crafted high quality goods."Jewelry store Holly Yashi manufactures all their jewelry in Arcata. They are just an example of a Humboldt grown business that has expanded over seas. CEO and President of Holly Yashi, Paul Lubitz said, "We send out over a million catalogues every year all over the world and we have people coming here from Belgium and now just last week china all over the world.""Now we are actually in New Zealand and Australia. And that's our biggest market."The delegates from China are hoping to get local businesses to attend a global trade conference this year in September. Ballinger added, "We are trying to get Humboldt County into a broader market specifically Asian countries."The next step for the delegates is to continue their tour of the North Coast in search of Humboldt made goods.
