EUREKA WOMAN KILLED IN HIGHWAY 101 CRASH NEAR WILLITS
The following is a press release from the Garberville area CHP:
On Monday, January 14, 2013, at approximately 7:12 pm, 51 year old Kelli Elizabeth Mcfarland of Eureka, CA, was driving her 1967 Chevrolet pickup on northbound US-101 north of the city of Willits CA. As Mcfarland entered a left hand curve north of Reynolds Highway at an undetermined speed, she lost control of her vehicle, which ran off the road, struck several trees and overturned. The pickup eventually came to rest on its roof. Mcfarland was ejected from her vehicle and died at the scene. Evidence at the scene indicates Mcfarland was not wearing her seatbelt.
Officers from the Garberville Area office of the California Highway Patrol were assisted at the scene by other first responders and emergency services including Little Lake Volunteer Fire Department, Ukiah Ambulance, and Deputies from the Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office.
Alcohol and or drug impairment as a factor in this collision remains under investigation.
The weather conditions at the time of this collision were clear skies, near freezing temperatures, and the roadway was wet.
The California Highway Patrol, Garberville Area, is investigating this incident and asks that if anyone was a witness to, or has information about this collision to call the CHP at 707-923-2155.
The California Highway Patrol urges motorists to wear their seatbelts, and to use caution and reduce their speed during winter weather driving conditions.
