HSU MAKES TOP 5 IN RECYCLING CHALLEGE

Humboldt state makes the top five in a national recycling competition. The 2012 “Game Day Challenge” promotes waste reduction at college football games. The goal is divert as much waste as possible from a single football game. Additional recycling and compose bins were placed around the stadium and the tailgating area to encourage game-goers to recycle. The game was October 20th against Dixie State. 80% of solid waste was diverted from that game. HSU also placed third in the diversion rate category. Besting campuses like Oregon State, Clemson, Harvard, and UC Berkley. They went outside of the classroom and offered an opportunity to educate and practice what they hope will lead to a more sustainable future.
