CORONER: ARCATA FATAL CRASH VICTIM IDENTIFIED

The coroner's office has identified the victim in Monday’s fatal collision in Arcata. The victim is 42-year-old Michael Anthony Saavedra of Eureka. California Highway Patrol officers say 52-year-old William Wolf of McKinleyville was driving his "2010 KIA Forte" in the northbound fast lane of Highway 101 just past the Sunset Avenue overpass around 6:30 Monday night. Officers say Saavedra was walking across the highway wearing dark clothing, and wolf did not see him in enough time to avoid hitting him.
Saavedra died at the scene. Officers are unsure of exactly why he was walking on the highway. They continue to investigate the collision.
