EPD AWARDS CITIZENS: VALOR-SERVICE AWARD PROGRAM
Eureka, CA- The Eureka Police Department is known for honoring their own men and women who go above and beyond the call of duty. They’ve now implemented a “coin challenge program” to honor community members that show extraordinary acts of kindness.
The Valor-Service Award; It’s a simple coin; commissioned by Eureka Police to serve as a token of appreciation.
Say, you save someone’s life, help catch a criminal, or unselfishly help others. EPD might have their eye on you.
Eureka Police Chief, Mural Harpaham has had his fair share of responsibility to the community. It’s his job, along with the other officers that do the same.
"We thought it would be nice to award citizens that do things like that with a challenge coin you know. Give them a little recognition,” says Harpham.
Last week they honored the first recipient: Betty Chin.
Chinn is a local philanthropist that provides food and services to the homeless community.
Police officers can recommend citizens to the chief of police. After staff approval, awards can be given at any time. Anyone that’s caught doing good in this community, may soon be handed a gold and blue coin.
