SEARCH FOR THE NEXT ARCATA FIRE CHIEF IS DOWN TO 2 CANDIDATES

 
Arcata, CA- The search for the next Arcata Fire Chief has been narrowed to 2 candidates. One candidate is from out of the area, and the other is already part of the Arcata Fire team. It’s Assistant Chief and Fire Marshal Desmond Cowan.
 
After a board meeting tomorrow night, the candidates will have to go through background checks and final interviews with the district board.
The final interview will take place on February 26th. Interim Fire Chief Justin McDonald added, "it is a long process. Part of the reason why we got late start from when chief McFarland retired was because the state was going through pension reform, we had no idea what was coming. Once the pension reform was set we were ready to look for a fire chief."
 
After medical screenings and contract negotiations, Arcata fire says they hope to have a new chief in the next couple of months.
