BREAKING: SUSPECT DETAINED AFTER STRUCTURE FIRE AT BLUE HERON MOTEL

Police have a male suspect detained who they believe may be responsible for an early morning fire. Humboldt Bay fire was called to the Blue Heron motel on Broadway just before 8 a.m. for a 2-alarm structure fire. Investigators say it started in a back storage shop area and quickly spread to two rooms. All of the occupants of the fourteen-room motel have been displaced as a result of the fire due to the fact the the blaze has affected the electricity throughout the entire building. The Red Cross will be involved to help those who have been displaced.

Investigators have not yet given a cause for the fire and have not arrested the suspect they have detained.

Firefighters say most of the fire damage was limited to two rooms. A smoke-filled Broadway was restricted to 1 lane northbound as officials worked to clean the scene. It took firefighters about 10 minutes to get the fire under control.
