THREE-HOUR STANDOFF LEADS TO ARREST IN FORTUNA
FORTUNA -- A three-hour standoff leads to the arrest of a parolee at the Six Rivers Motel in Fortuna.
California Highway Patrol and the Humboldt County District Attorney's office received information that two armed suspects were holed up in one of the motel rooms.
Fortuna Police responded along with the Humboldt County Sheriff's Office, the Humboldt County SWAT team, the highway patrol, and other police officials.
After several hours, 38-year old Von Eric Keener walked out of the motel room and was detained -- he's a parolee at-large and is wanted for sexual assault.
However, he was not the suspect police were originally looking for. Authorities received a tip that the man inside matched the description of the suspect involved in Sunday's fatal hit and run in Orleans.
The SWAT team searched for the alleged second suspect inside, but nobody was found.
Fortuna Police Chief Bill Dobberstein said Keener was not armed.
Authorities say the motel room was searched thoroughly and there was no further illegal activity to report.
