EUREKA -- Congressman Jared Huffman took in the sights and sounds of Humboldt Bay on Wednesday.

It was his first trip to the North Coast since being elected to the congressional seat.

The cruise aboard the Humboldt Bay Fire boat kicked off in the afternoon with several area leaders on board -- including Eureka City Manager Bill Panos and Humboldt State University President Rollin Richmo
Congressman Huffman met with university officials earlier in the day, and spoke with medical practitioners in the evening.

Huffman says he took in a lot of information Wednesday, and saw many changes that have taken place over the last several years, as he heard from local economic leaders.

The congressman even got a chance to examine some of the features of the boat.

His visit continues through Thursday as he gets set to meet with several officials from Humboldt, Del Norte, and Trinity counties.
