The Film Commission is developing a new map of what they hope will be tourism hot spots; locations where studio blockbusters, music videos and other big productions have filmed on the North Coast. Humboldt and Del Norte county scenery has been shot most recently for the Will Smith movie “After Earth,” but it can also be seen in Jurassic Park, The Majestic, and the Star Wars trilogy. The commission’s goal in mapping out the locations for the public to access is to continue to bring money to the area after filming has wrapped. There is already an existing list, it was developed more than 15 years ago.
The new list would add more current movies and music videos, as well as some physical markers for photo opportunities.

“Some type of placement there that they can take a photo with that they can put on Facebook that they can promote, help market the area for filming and tourism,” said Film Commissioner Cassandra Hesseltine.

“And make it so that people will either stay en extra day if they were already coming to the area or perhaps come just for this. We think it will be fun.”

The project is expected to be completed by summer of 2013. It will be available at local area chambers, hotels, the film commission office and online.
