Humboldt County organizations are working with the State to plan and prevent school shootings. We’re doing all counties in the state of California,” Sgt. Mike Haynes said. Sgt. Haynes works for the California Emergency Management Agency and said this seminar is the first step in getting first responders on the same page. So they all understand what the plan is and what the response is for the agencies to work together," Sgt. Haynes said. The Department of Homeland Security funds CAL E.M.A and is making seminars like these a priority for the state."I think they're seeing little things that can be fixed- help out, to work out those issues," Sgt. Hayes said. Local school districts, fire departments and law enforcement throughout Humboldt County took part in the day’s events. Now those agencies will take what they learned and help make a consistent countywide plan. We’re going to take care of it internally through the Board Of Education and the Sheriff’s Office and the other entities," Sgt. Kevin Miller of the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office said. Sgt. Miller points out that all districts already have a plan, but—They differ,” Sgt. Miller said. “We're trying to bring everybody in and focus in on one plan."The CAL E.M.A team will make their way up to Del Norte County next to introduce the same idea.
