Emeritus at Sequoia Springs is whipping up free food for seniors as part of the ‘10,000 meals in 60 Days’ program.

Only problem is— it’s day fifteen and they haven’t received any requests yet.

"They can call us, let us know and we will bring them a warm meal," Executive Director Tiffany Beltz said.

She adds that they’ll go anywhere in Humboldt County.

"We’ll put it together and we'll coordinate with the resident to find out when the best time would be for them and we'll get it to them as soon as possible," Beltz said.

Emeritus puts on the program at each community during national nutrition month. The goal is to give seniors hot meals that will keep them healthy.

The program is typically for those 65 and older and is a one time deal, but Sequoia Springs is willing to accommodate and make exceptions.

Call her chef Allison Pete. She’s the one who decides what the day’s meals will be.

"For example we had a choice of honey roasted pork or beef burgundy,” Pete said. We would give them that meal and package it up and give them the soup and the salad and the dessert that came with it and go spend time with them while they ate it."

And yes, it’s free.

"Anyone can call in and say that they know a senior who needs a meal and we'll take it over," Pete said.

That number is (707) 726-0111.

“So call us,” Pete said.
