Pesch selected to guide Track, Cross Counrty Teams
ARCATA — Former Lumberjack distance running standout Scott Pesch has been named head coach of Humboldt State’s track and field and cross country programs, Athletic Director Dan Collen announced Tuesday.
Pesch has been a top-producing real estate agent and broker for 16 years in Humboldt County. He has also served as head cross country coach and track and field distance running coach at Eureka High School, and is a founding member of the Humboldt Track Club.
“Scott represents a strong link to our community and to Humboldt State’s track and field and cross country traditions,” Athletic Director Dan Collen said. “He’s a very competitive person, who’s been successful at everything he’s attempted, as an athlete, a coach and a businessman. We’re fortunate to have him joining our staff.”
During his time competing for the Lumberjacks, Pesch captured the 1988 Northern California Athletic Conference championship in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. He also qualified for the national meet in the steeplechase in 1988 and 1990.
Pesch also was a key contributor to the HSU cross country team that captured the NCAC championship in 1988, and the Jacks’ squad that finished sixth in the nation in 1989.
“I’m honored to be in a position to provide our current student-athletes with the type of experience I received while competing for Humboldt State,” Pesch said. “Throughout life, you acquire knowledge and experience that contributes to who you become as a person. A lot of my success in life is related to running for HSU. As head coach, I’ll work towards that same goal for our athletes.”
Among Pesch’s entrepreneurial ventures was ownership and management of the Jogg’N Shoppe in Arcata, and he has served as race director for several road races, cross country events and track and field meets.
Pesch, who graduated from HSU in 1990, is a broker and owner of Coldwell Banker Affiliate Real Estate Offices in Eureka. He’s served the local community as Chairman for Youth Services for the Southwest Rotary Club in Eureka, and has been chair of the loan committee for Redwood Region Economic Development.
Pesch earned his MBA from Humboldt State in 2006. He resides in Eureka with his wife, Rachel, and their three children, Ethan, Ellie Jo, and Emily.
