Why are there HUGE delays at the Arcata/Eureka Airport?

Many of our viewers have called into our newsroom about the delays at the Eureka/Arcata airport.
Here are some answers:
Yes, there is construction going on at the airport and its been going on for the past month.
Congress mandated the airport put in an infrastructure that would protect any planes that missed the runway. So, the airport is doing just that, but in the process, the technology that helps pilots find the runway when it’s foggy out is out of service. This has caused about 75% of all flights to either be delayed or canceled.
Airport management says the construction should be complete by September 24th, 2010.
