The McKinleyville girls golf team has looked unstoppable. And as News Channel 3's Chet Davis explains, the Panthers unselfish approach to the game has resulted in success. Here's the Sporting Youth.


Nearing the halfway point of the high school football regular season, Eureka was trying to stay undefeated in conference play. Del Norte returned home going up against Fortuna. Humboldt State is back for homecoming and the experts give us their surprise teams. 

McKinleyville girls golf won its fourth consecutive event Thursday at the Eureka Muni. The Loggers Ashley Guiterrez had the lowest score with a 78. The next event is October 3 at the Beau Pre Golf Course.

After the first collegiate mountain bike race of the season, Humboldt State University Cycling Club leads the Western Collegiate Cycling Conference. Last Friday, Ferndale and Fortuna battled it out in the Milk Can Game. One of the most highly anticipated games of the season. But as News Channel 3's Chet Davis explains. An even better story was taking place on the sidelines.

College of the Redwoods battled in a non-conference volleyball match at Consumnes River on Friday, but, in the end, it wasn’t enough as the Corsairs fell in straight sets, 25-22, 26-16 and 26-24.

CR’s Anna Westin had a team-high seven kills, while Morgan Psalmonds led the Corsairs with 12 digs.

For the Athlete of the Week, we head out to College of the Redwoods. Chris Vicory is in his first season as the CR football coach. At quarterback, Victory decided to go with sophomore Will Hissong. As News Channel 3's Chet Davis found out, Hissong is not you're typical sophomore.

FAIRBANKS, ALASKA – In her first collegiate match for her home area team, Ashley Owen showed her might by powering Humboldt State volleyball to a season-opening victory late on Friday night.
The 6-3 junior from Gasquet, Calif. downed a match-high 16 kills to lead the Lumberjacks over the host Nanooks of the University of Alaska, 3-1, in the first day of the Nanook Classic.
