The High School Cross Country State Finals were held Saturday in Fresno. McKinleyville's Morgin Coonfield finished 3rd with a time of 18:05 in the D4 race. Here is a link with complete results:



The NCS Football Division 4 Semi-Finals featured two Humboldt Del Norte teams. Fortuna and Del Norte. The Warriors have been the story of the postseason with their two upset wins to advance to the third round. The Huskies entered the matchup with a four-game winning streak and won the hard fought battle 21-20 at Husky Field in Fortuna.

The great thing about making the postseason is anyone has a chance. That was the case for the Del Norte football team. But as News Channel 3's Chet Davis explains. Getting that chance in the playoffs wasn't easy.

Mendocino women’s soccer is again in the playoffs thanks from the efforts of three North Coast athletes.


They are sophomore Taylor McMillin, and freshmen Kenzie Rice and Winnie Stitt. McMillin has 14 goals and 16 assists this season. Rice in her first year at the college level has found the back of the net eight times. Stitt has shined on defense and also has two goals.

For many of these teams, they've been playing together ever since youth football and that's where it all starts. LOS ANGELES -- Former Eureka Logger Soma Vainuku scored his first college touchdown and helped USC upset No. 5 Stanford in a 20-17 victory.

The Ferndale girls soccer team advanced to the second round of the playoffs before losing to the number one seed. But even making it that far was an accomplishment for the Wildcats. The final Fab Five of the regular season did not disappoint!  Here are the top High School Football plays from the weekend.  

Merced’s Rogeene Russell hit two free throws with .08 seconds remaining to beat the College of the Redwoods women’s basketball team 70-68 on Friday in the Corsairs’ season debut in the first round of the Jocelyn Mancebo Classic at Delta College.

In a game that saw 16 lead changes and 10 ties, the Corsairs couldn’t hold on to a five-point lead with less than two minutes remaining.


It's the final week of the regular season in high school football. Ferndale and St. Bernard's entered tied for the Little 4 Conference lead. Both Humboldt State and College of the Redwoods are on the road. And the experts select the best grounds crew on the North Coast.

The Corsairs scrapped and battled, but, in the end, couldn’t overcome Shasta as the College of the Redwoods volleyball fell in straight sets in a Golden Valley Conference volleyball match at Eureka on Wednesday, losing 25-21, 25-22 and 25-22.
