An average high school basketball team usually has around ten players. Well, that's not the case for the South Fork girls team. As News Channel 3's Chet Davis explains, the Cubs might not have the strength in numbers but they still have enough to win... Here's tonight's Sporting Youth.

SAN FRANCISCO – BYU fell to Washington 31-16 in the Fight Hunger Bowl at AT&T Park on Friday night.
Cody Hoffman had 12 catches for 167 yards for his 18th 100-yard receiving game in his career to break the record held by Austin Collie. The former Del Norte Warrior also broke the BYU record for career all-purpose yards, ending his career with 5,015 and passing Curtis Brown....

She's known for her different colored hair styles and her blazing fast course times. And now Morgin Coonfield is know a member of the Nor Cal second team. News Channel 3's Chet Davis talked with Coonfield about the honor and what's next.


Some high school athletes focus on one sport.  Others do more than one sport.  Then there is McKenna Ford who plays four sports for the McKinleyville Panthers.  McKenna Ford is the Athlete of the Week.   

While North Coast high schools are out for the holiday break, members from McKinleyville girls basketball are keeping busy. After going undefeated at their very own tournament, the Panthers made a visit to the Eureka Rescue Mission Tuesday afternoon. The coaching staff and players served hot meals to the hungry and showed holiday spirit.



Another season of Saint Nick's Picks has come and gone. After a friendly battle, Santa is the winner and for his effort will receive a gift card from Ultimate Yogurt. News Channel 3 Sports Director Manny Machado made a special trip back to the North Pole to deliver Santa the good news.


With Christmas just a few days away, a lot of people making their way back to the North Coast for the holidays. That's the perfect time to break out the basketball gear for an Alumni Game. We'll that's exactly what McKinleyville thought. Chet Davis has the story with the Sporting Youth.

There is just five more days until Christmas. Entering the final week of Saint Nick's Picks, Santa has a two game lead. The winner will be treated to some delicious frozen yogurt courtesy of Ultimate Yogurt in Eureka. 

College of the Redwoods is off to an 8-4 start this season.  The Corsairs are led by Ferndale graduate Jon Losa, who is averaging almost 15 points and 16 rebounds per game.  Jon Losa is our Athlete of the Week.  

ARCATA — At times Monday's basketball game looked like a holiday party in full swing, with the dance floor rocking and rolling to to the tune of a 91-58 Humboldt State win over visiting Linfield College.

The Humboldt Hornets competed at the Jamz event held December 7, at the Cow Palace in San Francisco. They received the highest overall score and took first place in hip hop Jr High/Middle School and Jr High/Middle School Show Cheer.

Kersey Wilcox is the point guard for Humboldt State basketball and is looking like a seasoned veteran. But as News Channel 3's Chet Davis explains, Wilcox is becoming a leader after just six games as a Lumberjack. She's the Athlete of the Week.

ARCATA – Following the pouring of the foundation, one begins to build upwards, and such is the case with the Humboldt State volleyball team.

First-year head coach Kelly Wood helped to lay the Lumberjacks' plan for rebuilding the program this fall to a tune of the most victories in seven seasons.

FORTUNA, Calif. -- The HealthSPORT Fortuna Gymnastics Team concluded its competitive season November 23 when two of its members competed in the California State Level 3 Championships in Rohnert Park.


The HealthSPORT team had two Level 3 gymnasts qualify: Abbi Diamond and Cadence Lommori. Abbi competed in the Senior E age group and earned a 9.025 with her floor routine and...

Three weeks ago, Humboldt State freshman lineman Josh Hanson was the Athlete of the Week.  Well Josh isn't the only Hanson playing football in Humboldt County.  His younger brother Jake is a force at the high school level.
