“Fuel Your School” program delivers classroom materials to Washington Elementary
EUREKA - For every 8 gallons of gas you pump at a Chevron or Texaco station in the month of October, 1 dollar will go to your local public schools.
The program is called “North Coast Fuel Your School”. Teachers from schools in Del Norte, Humboldt, Lake and Mendocino counties post classroom material requests to donorschoose.org. The gas stations can then fund those purchases.
Today, students at Washington Elementary School received some hands-on materials from the program. There, to see the delivery were City Councilmen Chet Albin and Mike Newman, Chevron employees, Eureka Mayor Frank Jager, and school representatives.
A classroom at Cutten Elementary also received a delivery of materials through the program Wednesday.
"It's really important for us because learning is not always fun for my students and it can be really challenging and hard but with these fun materials that they can touch and manipulate, they really get to explore what they're learning and they get a really good idea with the hands-on representation of what a number is or what a letter is," Lacey Johnson, a K-2 Special Day teacher at Washington Elementary, said.
