$1.4 million in unanticipated costs due to a rise in health insurance rates
NORTH COAST- Around $1.4 million in unanticipated costs was discussed at Tuesday’s Humboldt County Board of Supervisors meeting in Eureka.
According to a county report, the fiscal year of 2013 to 2014 estimated a 7.5 percent increase in health insurance rates, but instead the county’s portion increased by 29 percent.
Staff members said the lower cost county health plans went up in price, and because the county is tied to those lower cost plans, they have had to adjust the budget. The difference in cost adds up to $1.4 million and to pay for the difference $457,000 will come out of General Fund and the rest will come out of other county funds.
