ARCATA- The city of Arcata has been awarded $1.6 million to develop the city's economy and low income housing.
A portion of the grant will go toward improving Juniper apartments on Valley East Boulevard. The city said the funding will improve living conditions for low income families renting there.
The grant will also go toward the city's business loan program which assists large and small businesses hire additional employees and grow. The program also focuses on growing businesses with five or less employees.
The funding comes from the US Department of Housing and Urban Development.
