HUMBOLDT COUNTY- Tuesday is National 211 day, but it is an even more special day for 211 Humboldt.
Today is the one year anniversary of 211 Humboldt, which is a free phone service operating under United Way of the Wine Country for people in Humboldt County. 211 Humboldt connects them to more than 2,800 basic needs agencies in the county. Officials with 211 Humboldt say the amount of people they serve has nearly tripled since the program started on February 11th of last year.
"I think that 211 is important to our community and any community because of the amount of time and effort people put in to try to find the right referral or the right agency or the right help that they need in their community. Some people can call anywhere from seven to 14 different places and not get what they're looking for, whereas they can call 211, explain to us their situation, and we will refer them to the correct agency or program that'll assist them during their times of need," said Jeanette Hurst, the Coordinator of 211 Humboldt.
With the recent walk aways, should the Sheriff's Office continue it's inmate work crew program?
