60-year-old woman rescued after spending the night 60 feet off HWY. 299
A 60-year-old Trinity County woman is discovered 60 feet over an embankment Tuesday off Highway 299. According to the California Highway Patrol, Paula Whitten was uninjured when Apex Construction and
Caltrans crews rescued her off the south edge of Highway 299 West of Willow Creek.
The CHP says Whitten was driving west on 299 Monday morning when for reasons still under investigation, she ran off the road.
She wasn’t discovered until the next day around noon Tuesday, after a construction crew heard someone shouting 60 feet over the road. Emergency personnel arrived on scene and transported Whitten to Mad River Hospital as a precaution.
The CHP does not believe DUI was a factor.
With the recent walk aways, should the Sheriff's Office continue it's inmate work crew program?
