80-year-old keeps officers in multiple hour standoff
DEL NORTE COUNTY - An 80-year-old man kept officers in a multiple hour standoff Friday afternoon in Del Norte County.
The Del Norte County Sheriff’s, CHP, National Parks and Fish and Game responded to Temple Street in Crescent City just after noon.
A family member had called concerned about 80-year-old George Burr threatening to kill himself.
When officers arrived, they found Burr inside his home with a 357 revolver. Sheriffs were eventually able to talk the man into dropping the firearm. Burr was taken to Sutter Coast Hospital for an evaluation. He suffers from dementia. Officers recovered six other weapons in his home.
