Abalone season to close down for the month of July
The northern California recreational red abalone-fishing season will be closing shortly.
The Department of Fish and Wildlife says for the month of July the season will close down to give the abalone population a break from fishing pressure. The season will resume beginning August 1 and continue through November 30. New regulations for the year include an 8 a.m. earliest start time, which reduces opportunities to take abalone during early morning tides. Limits for abalone cards from Mendocino County north are: 18 abalone per year. For more information, go to the following website:
