Arcata and Caltrans $1M agreement on Humboldt Bay Trail North
ARCATA- the city of Arcata will be taking a step forward with it’s Humboldt Bay Trail North project, Wednesday, if an agreement with Caltrans is approved.
In the agreement, Caltrans would provide $1 million for project construction and improvements within the State Highway System. The Trail North will run three miles, beginning at Samoa Boulevard, running parallel to the railroad and ending at the Bracut/101 intersection. The project is estimated to cost nearly $5 million.
"But it's also part of building up the tourist economy here in Arcata. I think with all the birds we have in the area and the beautiful bay, that having this trail could be a major attraction to this area in terms of tourism and general attractiveness and desirability of our area," said Arcata Mayor, Michael Winkler.
The city's environmental services will also ask council to approve a Natural Environment Study to assess project impacts on biological resources and water quality.
