ARCATA - Ten years and six million dollars later, construction of The Arcata Bay Crossing is now being celebrated.
Housing Humboldt along with Rural Communities Housing Development Corporation hosted a groundbreaking ceremony to thank it’s many partners and acknowledge how far the project has come. The Arcata Bay Crossing will be the first permanent supportive housing development in Humboldt County.
It will also provide affordable housing for homeless persons with serious mental illness and 31 people are already scheduled to move in when the housing project opens this summer.
"Seeing the construction behind me is really just a reminder that there's going to be people who are currently housing insecure, homeless, on the brink of homelessness, with a permanent roof over their head for the first time in their life. And that's why we do this. That's why we've been so committed to making this project happen. So I just feel really proud for our staff, all of our partners involved, that we pulled it off and that we can bring this resource to the community," said Beth Burks, Housing Humboldt Board President.
