ARCATA- On Wednesday, the Arcata City Council will decide how they will fill the seat made vacant by council member Shane Brinton.
The council can choose one of two options: appoint someone to fill the vacancy or hold an election for the position. If the council chooses to have residents vote on Brinton's replacement the election will be held during the General November election. The replacement would serve the remainder of Brinton's term until 2016.
Vice Mayor Michael Winkler said he was in favor of an election, saying it was the most democratic way to fill the position.
Two positions will be up for vote already, Alex Stillman and Mark Wheeltey's positions are set to expire.
