ARCATA- The Arcata City Council met in closed session to discuss the upcoming opening for City Manager on Tuesday. In the meeting, the council discussed the process of how they will fill the position.

Arcata Mayor, Mark Wheetley, said the council will start by holding an internal assessment with city staff. Wheetley said the city will be able to evaluate each departments needs before they begin the process of hiring the next City Manager.

Wheetley said Tuesday's meeting was the start of a long process. "Hiring a city manager, on the local level, is probably the single most important decision that elected officials can make for their community," he said.
