Arcata Council to meet in March to plan search for new City Manager
ARCATA- The Arcata City Council will have four months to search for a new City Manager. The current City Manager, Randy Mendosa, announced that he will retire on July 7th after holding the position for the past five years.
Mayor Mark Wheetley said the council will meet in closed session in early March to discuss how they will conduct the search. The city could recruit from within the city or recruit from out of the area. Wheetley said there is enough time to fill the position that the city will most likely not have an interim city manager.
"We're going to miss him," said Wheetley who has conducted three separate searches for city managers in the past..
Wheetley said Mendosa will be hard to replace, "It's a tall order to fill." He said the next person to hold the position will have to balance the cities unique qualities as a college town.
Mendosa started serving as city manager in 2009 and was appointed to the position after serving as Chief of Police, where he served the department for 28 years.
"I've really enjoyed working for the City of Arcata, I couldn't imagine working anywhere else," he said.
