Arcata Council Working Toward Cohesive 101 Plan
Arcata City Council members had different opinions on what should happen to the Highway 101 safety corridor project and how it should connect with the Bay Trail.
Caltrans presented the proposed idea and the Coastal Commissions report on it at Wednesday's City Council meeting. The proposed idea would eliminate all median lane changes and uncontrolled turns that go across traffic on several exits, and create partial light signal on others.
The Humboldt County Association of Governments also made a presentation on how the bay trail could be packaged into the project.
Council members disagreed on what parts of the proposed plan should be implemented and if the bay trail was possible with sea level rise.
The idea will be discussed further at the upcoming Coastal Commission meeting on September 12.
