Arcata fire collects thousands of items for Toys for Tots
ARCATA - The Arcata Fire Protection district loaded up thousands of toys today to be distributed to needy children in our community. The fire district has been collecting toys all month for the annual Toys for Tots Campaign.
They had drop off locations at all three of their fire stations as well as several other locations around town.
As they loaded up the toys for the Marine Corps League to distribute, they estimated around 2000 items were collected this year.
The toys will be presents for children in our community who are in need and might not get a present on Christmas.
The fire district said the community has been very generous with toy donations this year.
“I think Christmas is the time of year where everybody feels like they just want to give a little bit more because maybe we didn't quite give enough throughout the year and Christmas is just that time of the season that we all feel that we want to give a little bit more during that time of year. We like to participate in it because we like to give back to our community, not only with emergency response but in other ways as well,” Jenny Williamson, Public Information Officer for Arcata Fire Protection District, said.
