ARCATA-Arcata Fire Protection gave 3,000 gifts to the U.S. Marine Corps Toys For Tots fundraiser. The district started collecting children's toys from the community since the day after Thanksgiving and were able to raise $1,000 for the organization.
The donations come from Arcata Fire Employee's Association which donates to various organizations throughout the year. The toys will be given to children within areas that the fire district serves. There are an estimated 5,000 families in the area that are eligible to receive gifts thought the Toys For Tots program.
Captain Jon Busher said this is the largest amount of donations the department has been able to receive. "Even when times are tough, between travel and buying presents for your own family and friends, to be able to buy presents for perfect presents says a lot," said Busher.
