The Arcata Fire Protection District has welcomed thirteen new volunteer fire fighters to the team. Fire officials presented the new members yesterday at a ceremony in Arcata. A year ago Arcata Fire received a FEMA Retention Grant of four hundred eighty thousand dollars. It has allowed the department to hire a Retention Coordinator to recruit potential volunteers.
This year, out of 47 applicants thirteen volunteers made the cut. New volunteers will receive extensive career training and experience.
