Arcata High Students take on City Council positions for the day

ARCATA- Members of Arcata High School's student government  took the place of Arcata City Council members for a day as part of Student Government Day. Students shadowed council members and city staff to get an idea of what it is like to work for government.

The annual event is held at City Hall to help education students on the role of student government in a community. Arcata High School student government, leadership and journalism students took part in the event.

Students shadowing as council members held a mock council meeting that discussed the issue of pedestrian and traffic safety at Sunset Avenue and LK Wood Boulevard. In past years students have taken on issues like Arcata's plastic bag ban, and downtown public restroom.
